A brief word about psychopharmacology. Although medication management is often needed, I do not feel that it should always be the first "go-to." I truly believe that everything else should be tried first, especially with children and adolescents. I also believe that there are times when medication is absolutely necessary, and that if left untreated, a disorder can become debilitating, or that at times medication will help in the therapy process. I will gladly assist you in making this decision and weighing the risks/benefits. I also respect that some clients come to treatment and are currently using a medication that is working for them and wishes to add therapy to their treatment. If it is decided that a client could benefit from medication management, I will provide several referrals to local psychiatrists that I trust and work closely with. I will also prepare my client for their psychiatric evaluation and consider questions that might be asked during the evaluation. I will be glad to converse with your Doctor as needed and at your consent.
