"We come fresh to the different stages of life, and in each of them we are quite inexperienced, no matter how old we are."
François de la Rochefoucauld
I am experienced in helping individuals through each stage of life; childhood, adolescents, high school students transitioning to college and adulthood. I can also help families work through their 'seasons.'
Childhood - That time in life where the "little" people are undergoing very important developmental stages. And, oh boy, do we all know how trying those times can be! This is the time for meeting important developmental milestones. Some young children can experience anxiety, depression and other issues that may affect these developmental milestones. Other life events can also affect development; divorce, death of a loved one or pet, moving, and many others. I will work with children from age 5 and help to make sure they are meeting all of their developmental milestones.
Pre-teens (Tweens) 9/10-13. Oh, the drama! The roller coaster of emotions. Large shifts in social circle can occur, growth spurts, the fight over hygiene, social, emotional, intellectual development, a shift from concrete thinking to more abstract thinking, exploration of sexual identity, increased conflict with parents start to occur. This is a really cool group of kids to work with as they start to see things differently than their parents and other adults
Adolescence (13-19/25)......well..... this stage can be a huge challenge, but also filled with rewards. How does any adolescent (or parent) survive their adolescence these days? Being a teenager is not easy. That horrific time of rapid hormonal changes, peer issues, identity development, increased responsibility, separating from caregivers to go away to college (ok, not sure who this is most difficult for; the parent or the teen), transitioning between childhood and adulthood, achieving independence (with triumph and regret), sexual behavior, drug and alcohol experimentation, physical and psychological changes that can be overwhelming. I truly enjoy working with teenagers, helping them navigate their world and grow, and helping them meet those developmental tasks that college students need to meet.
Adults...Well who knows what age that really happens at? 18+ So, you've made it this far and have survived the above stages. Now what do you do now that you're grow up? What do you want to be? How do you get to the next step in life? This is the time when you fix all of the things that your parents screwed up, now is the time to edit the movie, to be the best YOU that you can possibly be. This is the time we can work together to help you say YES to life again. This it the time to identify any unresolved childhood trauma's and unresolved relationship issues, just to name a couple.
"It's a very hard thing for all of us to accept ourselves at all the different stages - the horrible side, the wonderful side, the adorable side - and who you are as a grownup. And then to bring what you learned as a child to that grownup: that is the magic of creativity." Ellen Greene
